All Saints' E-news - August 31, 2023

Join Our September Water Drive!

The Daughters of the King have received a request from Loaves and Fishes for a donation of 16 oz bottles of water. So, our water drive begins Sept 1st and lasts through Sept 30th. Donations of water bottles or money are gratefully accepted. Money can be given to Ingrid McCord and the bottles can be put in the basket in the narthex. The thirsty will be very grateful. We will also give some to our own food closet to help cover the neighborhood. With Gratitude, The Daughters of the King An Introduction to the Anglican Rosary and a Catalog of Crosses!

Yes, there is such a thing as an “Anglican Rosary,” distinct from the more familiar Roman Catholic Marian rosary and part of a long tradition of prayer beads. Come learn about this powerful (and fun!) spiritual practice and aid to prayer. The presentation will also include a romp through a “catalog of crosses” looking at the many styles, meanings, and traditions of the Christian Cross – complete with “Cross Bingo” game! Practice rosaries will be provided, but if you have your own, bring it along! This presentation will be put on by our own Jennifer Ballentine, following the 10 AM service on September 10th. All Saints Evensong on September 10th!

All are invited to Evensong/Installation for the A.G.O. (American Guild of Organists) at 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 10th. Members of the guild will provide the Prelude, Offertory and Postlude. Mr. Nelson will lead and play the service. A dinner for Guild members only will follow in the Parish Hall. The service should last about 45 minutes. Bring guests!

Book Club's Next Meeting set for October 29th: The Bridge of San Luis Rey

The Intermittent Book Club has selected October 29th as its next meeting date. All interested are invited to read The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder. In this novel, set in colonial Peru, a collapsing bridge brings 5 to their deaths. A Franciscan friar watching the disaster attempts to discern between free will and providence as he looks for the connection between them, with a result both surprising and affirming of God's role in our lives. As always, all members of the congregation are invited to read and attend!
