About the Lay Schedule
There are many opportunities for members of All Saints to participate in worship. The Lay Schedules come out every 8 weeks or so. Most ministries require a few hours of training after service before we add you to the schedule. If you would like to take on a new ministry e-mail the contact person for that ministry.
This person assists with the service of Holy Communion by helping the Deacon set the table and serving a chalice. At the 8:00 am service this person also does other acolyte duties. At present the lay assistant carries the cross in procession at the 10:00 am service, however as we increase the number of acolytes this will not always be the case. Lay Assistants need to be trained by the rector and approved by the Parish Commission on Ministry before serving. Teenagers may participate in this ministry after they have been confirmed. If you are interested in this ministry please e-mail The Rev. Michael Monnot.
At the 10:00 am service we have two or more acolytes who assist with the service. They carry the candles and cross in procession, light and snuff the altar candles and help with other aspects of the service. Anyone may serve as an acolyte, but priority is given to children. Children must be at least 8 years old and in third grade. They must be able to sit through worship without being distracting to the congregation. Training is typically held in early September for children entering third grade and as needed for teenagers and adults. If you are interested in this ministry please e-mail The Rev. Michael Monnot.
Two lessons each Sunday are read by members of the congregation. The Prayers of the People are drawn from the same pool of volunteers. Readers need to be able to read clearly using good public speaking technique. A brief after church review is all that is required to become a reader. At 8:00 readers are scheduled by Sara Chatfield once a month during coffee hour. The 10:00 readers are scheduled by the office. E-mail info@allsiantssacramento for more information or to sign up.
Ushers greet people at the entrance to the church, provide them a bulletin and help them to find a seat. They take up the collection and bring forward the gifts at the offertory. They also direct people to the altar rail for communion. For 10:00 Ushers serve one Sunday a month and are assigned a Sunday (1st,2nd,3rd,or 4th). Speak with Head Usher Larry Mullnix or e-mail the office info@allsiantssacramento.
The Altar Guild prepares the church for worship, cleans up after the service and take care of the various thing used in the service (linens, candles, books, etc.) There is one team for each Sunday of the month. If interested , speak with Margaret Lee or e-mail the office info@allsiantssacramento.
The flower guild prepares the flowers around the altar. You do not need prior experience to prepare flowers we can teach you. All you need is an artistic eye. Flowers are usually arraigned on Saturday morning. Flower guild members sign up for days they are available. Contact Beth Miller for more information.
Coffee Hour Hosts
The service continues at coffee hour after church is over. Hosting Coffee Hour is a great way to get to know people and is very easy. Just bring food and then help clean up afterwords. lots of people in the church can show you how. Jim Colgan, Doug or Sara Chatfield are good choices to ask at 8:00, while Pay Youmans, Ingrid McCord, Beth Miller or Gladys Snyder will give you help and advice at 10:00. There is a sign-up sheet in the parish hall near the kitchen.
